Dasara Festival - Arulmigu Kulasai Mutharamman Devi Temple


Dussehra festival celebrated annually at Gnanamoortheeswarar Udanurai Mutharamman temple in Kulasekarapatnam, Tuticorin district is very popular. Dussehra festival is celebrated very well in Kulasekaranpattinam Mutharamman temple next to Chamundeshwari Amman temple in Karnataka state in India. Accordingly, this year's Dussehra festival started today (October 15) with flag hoisting.

On the occasion of hoisting the flag, the flag was taken in a procession on an elephant at 5 am today. A special abhishekam was held for Swami Ambal at 6 am. Following this, the flag was hoisted on the temple flagpole at 9.15 am. Following the flag hoisting, the devotees who were fasting wore yellow rope bracelets on their hands. Following this, the devotees dressed in various costumes and went from street to street collecting offerings to the Goddess.

At the end of the ceremony they pay in the temple.

On the 1st day of the festival, Mutharamman is graced with Goddess Durga dressed up, on the 2nd day in Vishwakameswarar outfit and on the 3rd day Parvati in Ambigai outfit. Similarly, on the 4th day of the ceremony, Bala Subramaniar is decorated, on the 5th day, Navaneethakrishna is decorated, on the 6th day, Mahishasuramartini is decorated, on the 7th day, Ananda Nataraja is decorated, and on the 8th day, Gajaletshmi is decorated.

On the 9th day of the festival, processions are held along the streets of Uttaruli Ratha in the Kalaimagala decoration.

The pinnacle event of the 10th day festival is the slaying of Mother Mutharaman Mahishasuran on October 24. On that day at 12 midnight, the goddess will wake up on the beach in a lion vehicle and kill Mahisasura, who comes in various forms. After that, on the 11th day, October 25th, early in the morning, there will be a special abhishekam and worship to the Goddess who wakes up at the beach stage, Chitambareswarar temple.

Devotees dressed in garb continue to remove their amulets and end their fast. On the 12th day, the 26th, at 12 noon, the Dussehra festival concludes with a special Balabhishekam to the goddess and decoration of flowers.

The arrangements for the festival are being made by the Joint Commissioner of Thoothukudi Hindu Religious Charities Department, Anbumani, Assistant Commissioner Shankar, Inspector Bhagwathi, Temple Executive Officer Ramasubramanian.
